House of Labor

At some point this weekend Nathan Newman and friends launched "The House of Labor." It is a collaborative blog dedicated to labor issues over at TPMCafe. Seems like a fairly good use - a group of labor writers all in one spot.
Do you feel it in the air? Seems as if something is starting to gel...

What exactly is "House of Labor"?
An online magazine? Is this one of those new media enterprises that pool popular bloggers onto one site and package them together in order to conglomerate eyeballs for advertising?
I'm not clear. I just found
I'm not clear. I just found it myself. Right now it only has three entries and I'm not sure if they have open enrollment or if you need to have credentials. It seems more like a magazine to me as the writing on there so far is decently researched. It uses scoop, so I think they may be going for the Daily Kos approach to social blogging. TPMCafe itself is a extension of Talking Points Memo.
From about "TPMCafe is a public meeting place to read about and discuss politics, culture and public life in the United States. The site hosts both blogs and public discussion areas."
It sounds like the organizers recognized labor as an important voice in politics.
As you know, it is hard to find labor blogs. Making that your only topic can be exhausting, so I hope this will bring some would-be labor writers out of the woodwork.
I'm not that familiar with DailyKos either
I always wondered how DailyKos got started, too. Was it one guy who let people also write blogs on his site? I guess I'll have to do some research.
These kinds of sites would make for a good item for discussion here on this site.
I'm also wondering what kind the key differences between Scoop and Drupal are. If I were to guess, I'd say Scoop is more single-minded in its task of managing articles submitted by others. I think Drupal probably has a lot of other functionality designed to help individuals work more collaboratively. Just a guess.
Are you familiar with Scoop?
Administrator's note
Just for future reference, I'm not sure this post would qualify as a forum topic. This is more like a posting for your personl blog. Unfortunately, there is no written policy as of yet as to what constitutes a blog item or a forum topic, etc.
As mentioned elsewhere on this site (http://www.communicateordie.com/node/83), the lines are blurry between the different kinds of content.
I will begin work on an editorial policy and hopefully set forth some clear guidance for you and everyone.
Sorry. I thought this was
Sorry. I thought this was looking for "best practices" of social blogging for the purpose of extending labor communication. My bad. I don't have any affiliation with the House of Labor.
Not your fault
Keeping content somewhat organized is my problem to handle. I don't have a good handle on it yet myself. And worse, I have done nothing to help members figure out what should go where and it's obviously something I need to begin work on.
Here's some guidance
