- Background and interests
The Workers Solidarity Club is a small group of mostly union members, unemployed, and retirees, from different locals in the area that come together for mutual personal support, strike support, attend rallies or demonstrations, and host visiting organizers, writers, or people with a message appropriate to our values.
We have no constitution or elected leaders or formal anything. We are just a bunch of folks, which shared experiences that forged friendships. We wish to preserve those ties and the club is our way of having our cake and eats.
I’m a 40.5 year member of IUE-CWA Local 717, now retired. I served 17 years on the local’s Executive Board, 4 years with the bargaining committee on two local contract sets (one local one day strike) and one national contract. As well as serving 12 years an elected delegate to the AFL-CIO local central body. During my time working for wages, I was always comfortable as a shop floor activist and organizer of a kind.
Recently my interests have lead me to labor organizing using the internet and building the Community Labor News web site and the CLNews E-mail List Serve, see www.CLNews.org I am also active with the local Coalition for Peace and Justice, and as well the local visual arts community, see www.trumbullartgallery.com
If you feel inclined there is more biography in the book, "The New Rank and File", edited by Staughton and Alice Lynd, Cornell Uni. Press, 2000.
Married now 22 years, with two childran.
